From April 13 to 15, 2025, Xishuangbanna Dai
Autonomous Prefecture joyfully celebrated the Dai
th
New Year, ushering in the 1387 year of the Dai cal-
endar. The festivities began in Jinghong City with the
“Uniting in the Joy of Water Splashing—Hearing the
Mekong River” event. This special gathering brought
together young participants from five nations—China,
Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam—along the
scenic banks of the Lancang River. Embracing water
as a unifying medium and the festival as a vibrant
bridge, they collectively immersed themselves in the
rich traditions of this beloved Dai cultural celebration.
The joyous water-splashing carnival truly fostered
a strong sense of connection among all. The rhyth-
mic drumbeats of the dragon boat races pulsed with
the spirit of friendship, cross-border melodies flowed
from electronic dance music, and sky lanterns, in-
scribed with heartfelt wishes, ascended to illuminate
the shared night sky. Through this vibrant celebration,
the young people from the Lancang-Mekong coun-
tries cultivated an even deeper and more authentic
sense of being “one family.”
