                                                               “Well, I think the many-splendored Yunnan life is for both global
                                                            visitors and local residents alike. We need to take care of the public’s
                                                             well-being, especially the well-being of those in need,” said Wang
                                                              Ning, secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee.
                                                                   Wang said this via People’s Daily Online on March 6, adding the
                                                                  hashtag “Yunnan: A Many-splendored Life” has been viewed over 26
                                                                   billion times online, and many have asked him about the many-splen-
                                                                   dored Yunnan life since he first mentioned it in the 2023 Two Sessions.
                                                                       Wang noted more than 15 million Yunnan folks are migrant workers, and
                                                                    many elderly people and children are thus left behind. The left-behinds have problems
                                                                    with their basic needs, such as education, health care, safety, and others.
                                                                       “The left-behind elderly and children are always on my mind. Last year, we car-
                                                                    ried out a special caring action for them, regarding it as one of the six keys for Yun-
                                                                   nan Party secretaries at all levels to solve problems for the people,” said Wang, adding
                                                                  the caring action will persist in the days to come.
                                                                     Currently, Yunnan has built up “happy canteens” in rural areas and communities,
                                                               with 90% of the communities having “children’s homes.” These facilities offer meals to the
                                                             elderly and care to the children.
                                                             By developing rural tourism, the province also offered job opportunities to some previous
                                                       migrant workers, allowing them to work and take care of their families at the same time.
                                                      In 2023, 74.3% of Yunnan’s fiscal expenditure was used for people’s livelihood. “This year, we’ll
                                          continue to do a good job in the public’s well-being. I sincerely hope that net users will help us fulfill our caus-
                                       es for the people,” said Wang.
